US Drone Strike in Afghanistan Killed Civilians

US Drone Strike in Afghanistan Killed 10 Civilians, Including 7 Children

US Drone Strike in Afghanistan killed civilians: Pentagon, in reversal, says airstrike failed to hit Islamic State militants as intended. The US military said Friday that it mistakenly killed at least 10 Afghan civilians, including seven children—but not an Islamic State terrorist, as intended—when it launched a drone strike on a car in Kabul last month.

The United States has admitted it killed ten civilians in a drone strike in Kabul on August 29th.

The attack was one of its final military operations before entirely pulling out of Afghanistan after 20 years. Initially, the Pentagon defended the strike – saying it hit an Islamic State militant. But now, after investigating the incident, it’s owning up to the error. In a written statement Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin apologized for the strike – admitting that the deadly attack had been a tragic mistake.

An internal review revealed that only civilians were killed in the strike on the 29th of August – an aid worker and nine members of his family, including seven children.

The attack happened as the US was scrambling to evacuate its forces and civilians from Afghanistan – and just days after a terrorist attack at Kabul airport which killed dozens of people. Based on faulty intelligence, the US launched a drone strike on a car it believed was carrying militants about to mount a suicide bombing. Now it’s clear that was not what happened. The US says it’s considering paying compensation to the surviving family members.

Sorry is not enough for the Afghan survivors of an errant U.S. drone strike that killed 10 members of their family, including seven children.
“That is not enough for us to say sorry,” said Ahmadi. “The U.S.A. should find the person who did this.” -say, Emal Ahmadi, whose 3-year-old daughter Malika was killed on Aug. 29, when the U.S. hellfire missile struck his elder brother’s car, told The Associated Press on Saturday that the family demands Washington investigate who fired the drone and punish the military personnel responsible for the strike.

Ahmadi said the family is also seeking financial compensation for their losses and demanded that several members of the family be relocated to a third country, without specifying which country.
