Travel to Greece this summer and when we talk of the Greek islands we talk about places such as Crete, Mykonos, and Santorini in the Cyclades group of landmasses. However, there are a lot more places to see in this southern part of Europe i.e. archaeological ruins such as Delphi, Meteora, and Athens.

The wonderful and far-flung Greek islands draw numbers of vacationers year in and year out, making it a highly visited travel destination. With an excess of 2,000 islands to browse they may at first be puzzled by their number and assortment. From lovely beachfront, antiquated ruins, bright harbors, and active volcanoes the Greek islands have everything.

The biggest of the Greek islands, Crete is an extensive travel destination that is known for satisfying differentiations. the scenes here go from impressive coastline to rough mountains and farmlands speckled with olive trees. Vibrant metropolitan urban areas spread out to still small towns situated around plain-air coffeehouses. Saturated with a rich history, Crete bears archaeological hints of the numerous developments that occupied it as the centuries passed.

The Greek word Meteora translates to “hanging in the air, the expression which describes the striking ridges that ascent in excess of 1,200 feet (366 meters) into the air. These ridges are sitting above the towns of Kalambaka and Kastraki in the north-central territory of Greece.

What makes these precipices considerably more inspiriting are the notable buildings occupied by communities of monks roosted along the summits. Going as far back as the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries, the monasteries at Meteora were erected by priests. They were then looking for a place to peacefully detach themselves from the carnal world and find liberty from religious oppression.
