Romanian Government Was Dismissed. Why did this Happen?

Romanian Government Was Dismissed by the Parliament

Romanian Government Was Dismissed by the Parliament today, September 5th, 2021, all the Romanian  local newspapers were screaming  A few hours after the cabinet led by Florin Cîțu was dismissed by a motion of censure, President Klaus Iohannis announced that he would make a press statement at the Cotroceni Palace,

The title motion initiated by the Social Democratic Party garnered 281 votes “for”, 47 more than needed for the government to be fired. It is a record number of votes in favor of a motion of censure in post-December Romania. The parliamentarians of the National Liberal Party and the Romanian Hungarian Democratic Union were in the hall but did not vote.

The president of PSD, Marcel Ciolacu, announced that his party will no longer support a PNL government and proposed the option of a government of technocrats until the organization of early elections. According to the Constitution, if two consecutive proposals by the prime minister are rejected, the president can dissolve the Parliament and start the early elections, but not earlier than 60 days.

Another option would be the one in which, although he would have rejected two prime ministerial proposals, the head of state will not trigger the anticipations and will force a third nomination for prime minister.

Former Romanian Prime Minister Florin Cîțu said: It was a debate that showed how Romania is doing, how the USR party is arguing with PSD, so they do not have a governing plan. The government will be made around liberal values.

A few sentences from the speech of the members of parliament

Why The Romanian Government Was Dismissed? There were 281 votes in favor of the motion of censure. No parliamentarian voted against and there were no abstentions. It is the largest vote with which a government in Romania was dismissed. The motion of censure was submitted by PSD. Let’s read some of the speeches of the members of the Romanian Parliament.

Member of parliament Diana Soaca replied to former Prime Minister Florin Cîțu: You said that 70% of the population, which is unvaccinated, is stupid. You are the prime minister of a country of fools, of which you are the first. Someone is missing from here: He is the moral perpetrator of all the crimes, you can shout as much as you want, you are still embarrassing, the chief murderer, Raed Arafat, who must disappear. When I bring the bag next time, I put it in you and pull the zipper, so that no one will ever see you again. To the basket of history! Mr. Prime Minister, I tell you in CIA language: Get lost!

The speech of Mrs. Gabriela Firea (PSD member) was very sharp: Mr. Prime Minister, you said that you are honest, I really believe you. Then be honest and tell the kids that you put your hand in their pocket and cut RON 2.1 milliard into two installments.
Mr. Prime Minister, we don’t hate you, but we don’t think you’re good as a prime minister anymore. This is not an anti-Cîțu coalition, but a coalition of responsibility and concern for what is happening in Romania.

Consequently, the Cîțu Government was dismissed. 281 parliamentarians voted for the censure motion submitted by PSD. It is the largest vote with which a government in Romania was dismissed. The PNL and UDMR MPs were in the hall but did not vote.

PSD President Marcel Ciolacu said on Tuesday that the solution proposed by the Social Democrats to resolve the political crisis, if the censorship motion passes, is a government of technocrats to govern until the early elections. Ciolacu says that the anticipations should be organized in the spring of 2022. “Until the anticipations we want an agreement, signed with the President of Romania, who must admit in the 12th hour that he had a failure, to have a government of specialists”, says Ciolacu.
