Germany has initiated the withdrawal of the military from Iraq in the context of the US-Iran crisis

Germany began withdrawing military troops from Iraq on Tuesday in the context of the crisis between the United States and Iran, the publication Süddeutsche Zeitung reports, MEDIAFAX announces.

German military presence in bases in Baghdad and Taji will be “temporarily reduced”, a letter sent by Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer and Foreign Minister Heiko Maas Bundestag to the lower house of the German Parliament.

In the two military units, there are about 30 German soldiers, who have the role of training the Iraqi security services to counter the Islamic State terrorist network.

Another 90 German troops are in Kurdish areas in northern Iraq.
