Visual reality (VR) is a simulated experience that feels similar but is completely different from the real world. Visual reality can be applied for educational purposes such as medical or military trainings, and also for recreational purposes such as gaming. Virtual reality gaming is the application of a three-dimensional (3D) simulated environment to a computer game.

These visual reality environments are created with VR software and are shown to the users to make it look better than the real world and making it seem like the VR is real. These VR games can be played on specialized game consoles, standalone systems or advanced PCs and laptops.

The visual reality gaming industry has won the hearts of many and is still doing so up till date. It was initially just an idea that seemed fantastic and fascinating to experience; people have been excited about it long before its existence. Now it has come true, we all agree it is slowly becoming the best big thing in video gaming.

The new age of visual reality started when the first prototype of oculus VR and Samsung Gear VR were released. In 2015 when HTC released their vive headset, equipped with a hand controller and tracking device, the global revenue of virtual reality gaming hit $4.3 billion at the end of the year. Presently there are over 230 visual reality development companies producing both visual reality hardware and software. 

With VR games, you are no longer forced to sit in front of your screen using your hands to control characters. You can now feel like the game is around you which gives a more fascinating and personal experience. The beauty and thrill of VR gaming comes from its first-person viewpoint and its ability to manipulate the virtual environment. Since VR was introduced into gaming, there has been a massive improvement when it comes to quality and innovation, both hardware and content have continued to improve.

Visual reality gaming has also drawn attention to its effect on health and safety. Prolonged use of visual reality has caused a number of unwanted symptoms which may have slowed its growth and development. Most visual reality systems come with consumer warnings which include seizures, collision warning, discomfort, repetitive stress injury, development issues in children etc.

Just like all screened technology, it may cause eye fatigue. There are also concerns about it contributing to myopia. There are still a few challenges VR developers need to improve on. Although VR gaming hasn’t gotten to where we expected them to be, the future is still very bright and we anticipate their next move.
